3.3kg Pale Ale (13 scoops)
1.3kg Pilsen (6.2 scoops)
0.3kg Melanoidin (1.3 scoops)
20 Liters of strike water @ 73°C (a little low.)
Mash @ 67°C for 90 minutes
Add 6 liters water
Add 40g of Cascade
90 minute Boil
Yield: 20 Liters
This recipe is a result of my fucking up my malt order. I ended up with too little Melanoidin for 80 liters.
So I divided the 10kg of Pale Ale into 3 batches instead of 4, topped off with Pilsen, then divided a kilo of Melanoidin into 3 batches.
This is something I wanted to try anyway: I was thinking about increasing the percentage of Pale Ale and decided to back off the Melanoidin just a little. Worked out fine.
It did, however, leave me with much more Pilsen than I wanted to have on hand. I plan to use all remaining Pilsen malt for a Honey Beer.
73° strike water left me with a mash-in temperature of 64° ...I carefully raised it to 67°. I believe I will increase the strike temp to 75° next time.
I'm also hoping that my "scoop" measurement system works out well ...I don't want to buy a scale.
Bidon 2, as above.
Bidon 3, mashed-in @ 68°, no heating required.
